Miss America 2019 Has Been Announced: Know Who Has Been Crowned This Year
The 2019 Miss America pageant had already grabbed attention of the public when in June it was announced that the participants of Miss America would not be judged on the basis of their physical appearance, the Miss America event will be considered as a competition and not a pageant, the titleholders will be called candidates instead of contestants, and the swimsuit competition will be replaced with a live interactive session of candidates with the judges. After all the controversies surrounding the competition, the winner has been finally announced. This year’s crown of Miss America has been won by none other than the Miss New York, Nia Franklin.
The competition had 50 candidates running for the title, but Franklin made it the top and got crowned on Sunday night in Atlantic City. After being crowned as the Miss America 2019, Nia Franklin expressed her gratitude by saying-
“I’m feeling really blessed right now. I want to thank God because without him I wouldn’t be standing here. It took a lot of perseverance to get here, and I just want to thank my beautiful family for coming, my mom and my dad, who’s a survivor of cancer, and I love him so much. I want to thank all of my sisters behind me. We’ve had a wonderful week together, and I love each and every one of you.”
About Nia Franklin
Franklin is an opera singer, native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She completed her master’s degree in music composition from UNC School of the Arts. She shifted to New York when she was accepted at the R. Kenan Jr. fellow program at Lincoln Center for Performing Arts.
The pageant journey of Nia Franklin started from her East Carolina University days, where she was crowned Miss Black and Gold in a scholarship pageant. In 2016 and 2017, she went on to compete in the Miss North Carolina organization. Franklin was in the top 11 in the Miss North Caroline 2016 pageant. In 2018, she competed at Miss New York 2018 pageant where she went to top both talent and swimsuit preliminary awards and ultimately was crowned Miss New York 2018.
While Franklin was crowned Miss America 2019 by former Miss America 2018, Cara Mund, the first, second, third and fourth runner-up was Bridget Oei (Connecticut), Holli’ Conway (Lousiana), Taylor Tyson (Florida), and Gabriela Taveras (Massachusetts) respectively.
It will be interesting to see if the format of the competition remains the same for the next year too or it will be changed back to the way it was held before this year. What do you think? Let us know your views in the comment section below.
