Swimsuit Model is Making Headlines with Her Breastfeeding Walk on the Runway
Mara Martin, a swimsuit model caught everyone’s eyes when she walked the ramp for 2018 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition on Sunday night. What caught the attention of everyone was Martin walking the runway breastfeeding her five-month-old daughter.
The new mommy celebrated the beauty of motherhood wearing a one-shoulder, gold bikini while nursing her baby, who was wearing a green bikini of her own with a diaper and noise-canceling headphones.
On her Instagram, Martin posted “I can’t believe I am waking up to headlines with me and my daughter in them for doing something I do every day”.
The audience applauded the mom and daughter at the top of their voices. The video has got more than 30,000 likes in a day on the Instagram. Martin was selected as one of the 16 finalists for the fashion show which was held at W South Beach.
Well, this isn’t the first time that a fashion show has celebrated the different stages of motherhood in such way. Earlier Dolce & Gabbana dedicated its entire ready-to-wear-collection of Fall 2015 to mothers by making models walk the runway wearing costumes embellished with phrases such as “I love you, Mamma”. Similarly, model Diandra Forrest was seen closing the Fall 2016 Gypsy Sports show by carrying her seven-month-old daughter. On the other hand, Maia Ruth, who was eight-months pregnant, walked the show for Eckhaus Latta with several undone buttons, making her baby bump peek out, in 2018 Spring show.
On Monday, Martin took to Instagram to share the response she has received after the Sports Illustrated show. She shared a screenshot of an article by Daily Mail and captioned it with – “Words can’t even describe how amazing I feel after being picked to walk the runway for @si_swimsuit. Anyone who knows me, knows it has been a life long dream of mine. I can’t believe I am waking up to headlines with me and my daughter in them for doing something I do every day. It is truly so humbling and unreal to say the least. I’m so grateful to be able to share this message and hopefully normalize breastfeeding and also show others that women CAN DO IT ALL!”
“But to be honest, the real reason I can’t believe it is a headline is because it shouldn’t be a headline!!!,” the caption continued. “My story of being a mother and feeding her while walking is just that”.
Really, Mara Martin has made herself proud and all the mothers around the world proud for breastfeeding her baby publicly.
